I was the prophesied strongest she-wolf, his fated Luna. After bearing his heir, he cast me out to die. Six years later, I'm back — not as his broken mate, but as the shadow guarding our son. They stole my past. Now, I'll claim their future. And my mask is the least of their worries.
The Bargain
“Congratulations, Aria! The pup is healthy and strong.” The doctor announces, his voice filled with awe. “He must be the Alpha heir from the prophecy!”
Relief washes over me at the sound of my son’s cries.
This is the child our entire pack has been waiting for.
Not just because he is the firstborn of Alpha Liam.
But because both my baby and I are… different.
We are both destined to be the strongest of our kind.
The labor was long and brutal.
Memories of my childhood here surface.
I was found alone in the woods.
I grew up with no family, no one to rely on.
Only the Alpha’s family ensured I had the basics to survive.
Everyone assumed I was an omega orphan.
But when I first shifted, I was larger than any recorded she-wolf in a century.
Stronger. Faster.
My eyes glowed a bright, fierce gold instead of green.
I was… unstoppable.
The elders declared I was destined to be the strongest she-wolf of my generation.
And I would become the mother of the chosen one. The Alpha of prophecy.
The KING fated to unite all the packs under the Blood Moon.
Their excitement was palpable when my fated mate turned out to be their young Alpha, Liam.
Meaning the prophesied Alpha would be born to them, the Crystal Valley Pack.
“Has Liam arrived yet?” I ask, desperate to see my mate.
The nurse holding my hand, Olivia, presses her lips together. “No. We’ve called Alpha multiple times. No answer. We just sent someone to fetch him.”
Disappointment threatens to crush my joy, but I hide it. As always.
Even after all this time, I’m still unsure if Liam has truly accepted me as his marked mate and wife.
Liam was only twenty-two when we discovered we were fated.
Deep down, I was overjoyed.
I’d always felt drawn to him.
How could I not? He was powerful. Magnetic. Everything about him was… perfect.
But back then, he was involved with the Beta’s daughter, Chloe.
They were happy. Everyone thought they were meant to be.
I didn’t want to ruin that, so I stepped back. I let Liam choose.
Liam’s family took me in, as tradition demanded for the Alpha’s identified mate.
That first night in his home, I could feel his presence through the walls.
It was overwhelming. I bit my fist in sheer frustration.
The next morning, I woke up naked in Liam’s bed.
We had not only slept together. We had completed the mating bond. We had marked each other.
I didn’t understand how it happened.
I felt foggy. I couldn’t remember the night before.
When Liam woke, he was enraged.
He locked me in his room and stormed out.
I soon realized he probably thought I had tricked him into his rut. A mate cannot be rejected during a rut.
He returned that night.
I tried to explain I had no memory of it either, but he cut me off.
Liam said it didn’t matter anymore.
His parents convinced him to marry me. We were already marked. We couldn’t reject each other for three years.
He made a promise.
If I gave birth to the prophesied Alpha heir, I would officially become his Luna.
I agreed.
After that, everything between us was purely physical.
I tried to be a good wife. I tried to win his affection. To earn something more than just sex.
Some days, he did seem to soften at my touch.
And yet… he isn’t here for his son’s birth.
The medical staff crowds around my son. I can’t even see his face. “Excuse me? May I hold my son, please?”
Olivia speaks up. “Of course! Everyone, out. Let the mother bond with her pup.”
They all file out except Olivia and Dr. Alexander.
The elder doctor places my little boy in my arms.
The baby’s eyes are squeezed shut as he cries, tiny fists waving.
“Shh, it’s alright,” I whisper, cradling him closer.
“What will you name him?” Olivia asks.
“Noah. After Liam’s father.”
The baby has quieted, sleeping peacefully against my chest.
He fusses softly, and I wonder if my own mother ever felt this pride looking at me.
I never knew my parents.
But I prefer to believe they died tragically. That they didn’t choose to abandon me.
“Your papa is busy working,” I murmur, nuzzling Noah’s head. “He’ll be here soon. He will.”
Then I hear footsteps outside the door. My heart leaps.
It must be the nurse returning. With Liam!
Suddenly, the door bursts open.
