Chapter 1

My sister Noella went skydiving—not for the thrill, but to frame me. And my parents? They lost their minds. Their idea of punishment? Dangling me from a helicopter, letting the wind whip me around like a ragdoll.

"You need to feel the pain Noella endured," Dad spat, his voice dripping with venom. "Maybe then our hatred will fade."

My hands were raw, my mouth gagged. The wind roared in my ears, stealing my breath.

"How could you be so jealous of your sister?" Mom sneered. "This is your warning."

Then—the rope gave way.

I plummeted into the sea, my body slamming against the water like a sack of bricks. Pain exploded through me, but my limbs were bound. No matter how hard I thrashed, the sharks came. The water turned crimson.

Three days later, Noella put on her best act.

"We should bring Madeline back," she murmured, eyes glistening with fake tears. "Even if she hates me… she's still my sister."

Too bad I was already fish food.

"Where is she?" Dad growled, tossing his phone aside. "That area wasn't far from shore. She's probably off sulking somewhere—or worse, running off with some punk."

Mom clutched her chest dramatically. "Thank God Noella survived. If she hadn't… I wouldn't know how to go on!"

Dad nodded. "That brat can swim. She'll be fine."

Mom hesitated, then shot Noella a doting look. "Honestly, I wish she'd just—" She cut herself off, but I knew.

They didn't care.

Meanwhile, Noella played the saint. "Maybe she's mad at me… Should I jump in after her?"

Are you kidding me? She's the one who tied me up!

But my parents ate it up.

"She's always been manipulative," Mom scoffed. "This is just another one of her pity plays."
