The man I'd been in love with went blind, and suddenly, I was pretending to be his fiancée, looking after him for an entire year. But just when I started to get comfortable in this new role, his real fiancée came back and kicked me out of the villa. Heartbroken, I left the country to start over on my own, thinking that was the end of it. What I didn't know? He'd been desperately searching for me ever since.

...
"Lucas, time for your medicine!"
I kept my voice soft as I stepped into the bedroom, carrying a glass of water.
The man sitting on the edge of the bed turned toward me, the fading sunlight casting a warm glow over his handsome face. But his eyes... were vacant.
"You're late. Thirty minutes," Lucas grumbled, though he smiled gently at me.
"The company had something urgent come up," I said, mimicking Emma's tone as I handed him the glass.
Lucas was my husband, but I was pretending to be his childhood sweetheart.
A year ago, Lucas had been in a car accident that left him temporarily blind, and no one knew when, or if, he'd ever see again.
Emma, his fiancée, was too proud, too selfish. She couldn't deal with a blind man, so she ran off abroad to escape.
Meanwhile, my brother had a heart attack and urgently needed surgery. The medical bills were stacking up, and I was drowning in debt.
That's when the Smith family contacted me, secretly searching for someone to play Emma's part, a voice actress who could match her in every way.
And I was the perfect fit.
With my background in vocal music and top-notch grades, the deal was quickly sealed.
"So, what's for dinner tonight?" Lucas asked, a playful smile tugging at his lips as he toyed with my fingers.
He worked from home and only felt at ease when I was done with work.
"The housekeeper made your favorite. I'll bring it up in a bit," I said, trying to sound casual.
"Perfect."
Lucas brushed his fingers along my neck and leaned in to kiss me.
I felt my face heat up, unable to pull away, and instead, I let him pin my wrists to the bed.
My heart raced, even though this was far from the first time.
But each time, I couldn't shake the anxiety, terrified that I might slip up and reveal who I really was.
His hand slid down my waist to rest on my stomach, his brow furrowing in confusion.
"It's been so long. Why is there still no... movement?"
"Uh... it's just a matter of fate, I think. And with work, I've been so tired lately. Probably need to focus on taking better care of myself."
I lied. He couldn't see the little ticks in my expression, after all.
Our relationship was just a business arrangement, and I made sure to take my pills on time.
