My mate rejected me at the registry to mate with his scheming ex. I vanished and accepted an arranged bond with a powerful Lycan. Three years later, I returned as his Luna. Now, my ex begs for forgiveness. But my new mate has a question: "Darling, how would you like him to pay?"
My boyfriend Alexander Bennett and I were about to register our mate bond at the Pack Affairs Department.
Then he had security throw me out without a single word.
He walked in moments later with Isabella Reed. He didn't even flinch when he saw me sitting on the ground, trembling.
"Isabella's child needs Crestwood pack status," he stated coldly. "The fastest way is through mating a Crestwood wolf. Once our bond is broken, I'll mate with you."
Everyone expected me to wait another month for him. I'd already wasted seven years.
That night, I surprised them all. I accepted my parents' arranged mating and left for Silvercrest pack without looking back.
Three years later, I returned to visit my family. My mate Benjamin Weyland, now the lycan chairman, sent someone to collect me from the airport due to an urgent meeting.
I never expected that someone to be Alexander. His eyes immediately locked onto the glittering bracelet on my wrist.
"Isn't that a cheap imitation of the two-million-dollar bracelet Chairman Weyland bought his mate? You've become quite vain."
"You've had your fun. It's time to come home. Isabella's child needs school transportation. You'll handle it."
My fingers traced the diamonds on my wrist.
He had no idea this was the most modest piece Benjamin had ever given me.
...
The sign read "Mrs. Weyland" in bold letters. I froze when I saw who held it.
Alexander Bennett. Three years without contact. No apologies. No explanations.
He stood with Isabella draped over his arm. Their entourage clustered behind them like vultures.
One of them spotted me first. "Alexander, isn't that your little shadow? What was her name? Evelyn something?"
Alexander's eyes widened briefly before his face settled into a familiar smirk. "I told you she'd come crawling back."
The group laughed. "Evelyn Miller disappeared without a trace. Now that Alexander's Crestwood's Beta, she must regret everything."
"Evelyn, if you're going to stage an accidental meeting, at least dress properly. Those clothes look like something from a thrift store."
"Couldn't even afford decent clothes after leaving Alexander? How pathetic."
They didn't know my outfit was custom-designed for comfort during pregnancy. Every thread chosen by Benjamin's personal stylist.
I'd grown accustomed to going makeup-free while pregnant. To them, I was still the desperate she-wolf trying to catch Alexander's attention.
Three years ago, I'd found a werewolf who loved me for who I was, not what I represented. That werewolf was Benjamin Weyland, the lycan chairman. The "Mrs. Weyland" they awaited was me. None of them had figured it out.
Someone tried to break the tension. "Evelyn, Alexander's been searching for you everywhere."
Alexander's smile tightened. He shrugged dismissively. "Isabella's son starts school Monday. You'll handle his transportation."
Still the same arrogant werewolf. But I wasn't the same female who constantly pleased him. Now he only disgusted me.
I was about to reveal my identity when Isabella interrupted.
"Don't be angry with Alexander, Evelyn. He's trying to help you. Three years away... who knows what low-level work you've been doing?"
"Look at you. Even if he wanted you as his assistant, you'd embarrass him. Just watch my son. No one will judge you."
Isabella remained as smug as ever.
I raised an eyebrow, hands resting on my stomach. I remained silent, curious how far their delusions would go.
Alexander misinterpreted my quietness. He thought I was jealous or heartbroken.
His mocking laugh confirmed it.
"She clearly failed out there. She should be grateful for any job I offer."
"Take care of the child and stop causing trouble. Know your position."
