Chapter 1

My fiancée Rosalie, the CEO, told me the company was struggling and slashed my salary in half. Then I saw her assistant, Tyler, posting on Instagram.

“The boss not only gave me a raise, but she also bought me a luxury car because she was worried I’d be burned out from work. She’s such a sweetheart!”

In the photo, he and Rosalie were grinning like they’d just won the lottery, standing in front of a shiny new million-dollar car.

I paused for a second, then casually hit the like button.

That night, Rosalie called an emergency meeting. She said I was disrupting the office vibe, so as punishment, she took my entire month’s salary and handed it over to Tyler as “compensation for emotional distress.”

The room went silent, everyone watching me, waiting for me to blow up.

But I didn’t lose it. I calmly packed my stuff and slid my resignation letter across the table.

“Cutting my salary isn’t enough for bullying a colleague? Fine. I’m out.”

Tyler jumped in like he’d been waiting for this moment.

“Felix, come on. This is nothing. You’ve been with the company forever, and Rosalie’s always treated you well. If you leave now, what’s everyone gonna think of her?”

“Rosalie, you need to talk him out of this!” he added, all concerned like he was my best friend.

Rosalie probably meant to try and stop me, but after hearing Tyler, her patience ran out. She scoffed, not even glancing at me.

“Why should I talk him out of it? If he wants to leave, then let him. I’ve got nothing to hide. Let people say whatever they want.”

Without missing a beat, she signed my resignation letter and tossed it in my face.

The room went dead quiet.

A colleague, someone who knew how much I’d put into the company, leaned in and whispered, “Don’t do this, Felix. Think about it. Apologize and walk away.”

Everyone knew how much I’d sacrificed for this company. I helped Rosalie build it from scratch. When we were struggling, I worked day and night to bring in investors. When deadlines were insane, I stayed up all night with the team to finish. I gave it everything I had.

And now, with the company about to go public, who in their right mind would walk away?

But I didn’t flinch. I picked up the resignation letter from the floor.

“I’ll leave after I finish handing over my work.”

“No need for a handover. Just get out,” Rosalie said, waving me off like I was nothing.

I didn’t argue. I grabbed my stuff, said a few quick goodbyes, and walked out.

Before I left, I glanced at Rosalie one last time.

For a split second, I saw something shift in her cold eyes.
