About this book

My fiancé and cousin killed me for refusing to "share" him. Reborn at our engagement party, I let their scheme expose them and married a revolutionary instead. But as war breaks out, my past haunts the battlefield. Can we build a new nation, and will our love survive its birth?

Chapter 1

My name is Emma Evans.

At my engagement celebration, my cousin Olivia Hill feigned intoxication, secretly ingested a potent stimulant, and tearfully pleaded with me to share my fiancé Liam Lowell for a single evening.

I summoned Noah Winston, who had always remained devoted to her.

When Olivia awoke to discover Liam wasn't the man in her bed, she took her own life in a fit of shame and fury.

Liam never held me responsible for the tragedy and continued treating me with unwavering affection.

I carried immense guilt over Olivia's death, dedicating myself completely to caring for her grieving family.

Yet on our wedding night, Liam poisoned me and delivered my helpless body to beggars for violation. "Olivia endured this same agony at Christmas. Now your corrupted flesh shall atone for her suffering."

I was brutally tortured to death that night, my unborn child perishing with me.

When my eyes opened again, I had returned to that fateful evening where Olivia wept and begged me for Liam.

During the engagement festivities, Olivia pretended drunkenness, consumed an aphrodisiac, and implored me through tears: "Emma, please let Liam rescue me, I beg you!"

She clutched at my evening gown while sobbing: "Emma, I only need to borrow him for one night. Please help me!"

I gazed down at Olivia weeping at my feet and released a soft sigh: "Olivia, Liam and I are formally engaged. If we proceed with this, what future marriage prospects will remain for you?"

Liam likewise frowned with disapproval: "I'm your sister's intended. Your behavior disgusts me!"

He shoved Olivia away and pulled me along as he turned to depart.

Watching Olivia writhing in discomfort on the floor, my resolve finally softened.

I contacted Noah, who had always admired her from afar.

Olivia and Noah were already betrothed, and Noah was an honorable man who would never disclose this incident.

Having him intervene was the most appropriate solution under the circumstances.

Yet when she awakened to find Noah beside her, she immediately collapsed into hysterics.

She pointed at me screaming that I'd ruined her existence, then decisively ended her life.

This incident became an inescapable shadow over my heart. I remained convinced I'd caused her demise.

After her death, I devoted myself completely to supporting her family.

Liam appeared sympathetic to my efforts and frequently accompanied me to care for them.

But on our wedding night, he actually brought multiple beggars to violate me to death.

I desperately pleaded for mercy, but he stared at me with revulsion: "If not for you, I could have been with Olivia long ago. This is all your fault!"

"Olivia suffered this same torment at Christmas. She's dead now, so sacrifice your life to atone for hers."

I discovered he'd been involved with Olivia even before our engagement.

Through Olivia's diary that she'd given him, I learned she was his first love.

But he never knew that diary meticulously documented every detail about me.

Olivia had envied my background since childhood and obsessively mimicked my every aspect.

From clothing preferences to speech patterns, she even copied my diary entries verbatim.

She believed by replicating everything about me, she could ultimately replace me.

In my previous life, I repeatedly yielded because she was family, ultimately costing me my life.

This time, I resolved to grant their wishes, for I had more crucial matters to pursue.

When the familiar scenario unfolded again, I excused myself early to change dresses, leaving the stage entirely to Olivia.

Exactly as before, she pretended intoxication and "accidentally" consumed an aphrodisiac.

Then she pushed Noah aside and desperately searched for Liam and me.

Unable to locate me, she fell to her knees begging Liam: "Please save me!"

"If you don't help me, I'll die!"

She used suicide as leverage against him.

Disgust flashed across Liam's face.

Meanwhile, a servant quietly reported to me: "Mr. Lowell claimed urgent business and departed early."

Observing my reflection, visions of my brutal previous death surfaced, making me shudder.

Fortunately, I'd been reborn. This time I would personally dispatch them both to damnation!

I instructed: "Request Mr. Winston's presence. Inform him I'm deeply concerned about Olivia and would appreciate his assistance locating her."

After the servant departed, I began theatrically searching for Liam everywhere.

Wherever I went, I anxiously inquired: "Have you seen my fiancé and cousin?"

Soon, every engagement party guest knew Liam and Olivia had vanished together.

Noah also grew increasingly alarmed: "Olivia is a respectable lady. If this becomes public, her reputation will be destroyed."

He immediately commanded his men: "Find Olivia immediately!"
