About this book

When Harrison Bennett wakes up paralyzed three days before his wedding, he uncovers a truth more devastating than his broken spine: his fiancée Lily Montgomery orchestrated the "accident" to trap him in a wheelchair—and her gilded cage. But Harrison is no pawn.

Chapter 1: Shattered Vows

Three days before our wedding, my spine was crushed in a hit-and-run.

Lily made sure the driver who did this rotted in prison.

I lay motionless in the hospital bed, struggling to process the truth—I would never walk again.

Dazed with pain, I caught fragments of Lily’s conversation with the doctor, her tone icy and detached.

"Ms. Montgomery, we can still save him. If we delay, the paralysis will be permanent. Do you truly want to destroy this man’s life just so Ethan can stand at the altar?"

"Let him stay broken. I’ll provide for him. If he recovers, he’ll ruin everything."

"I promised Ethan a lavish ceremony to welcome our child into the Montgomery family. Harrison must be helpless—incapable of interfering. A cripple is better. At least he won’t harm Sophia."

A tear burned down my cheek, unseen.

The wedding I’d envisioned? A sham.

The love I’d believed in? My execution.

If this was her game, I’d play along—for now.

"Stay silent and follow the plan. The vasectomy must be flawless. He can’t know."

"Once he wakes, I’ll take him to adopt Sophia. Without the ability to father children, he’ll have no choice but to love her as his own."

The doctor wiped his brow, unease twisting his features.

"Ms. Montgomery, reconsider. Mr. Harrison is already paralyzed. If you proceed… you’re erasing his future. How will he face your family? He’s still a man—"

"And your daughter with Ethan is three. That girl is your mirror image. If Harrison discovers—"

Lily dabbed my cracked lips with a damp cloth, her voice laced with false tenderness.

"He won’t. As long as he’s trapped in that wheelchair, he’ll never leave the estate."
