I returned to my wealthy family, only to become the target of the imposter heiress's cruelty. My own parents and brother forced me to kneel in penance for a crime I didn't commit. Now, dying of cancer, I give up. But in death, I see their devastating regret... and get a second chance in a new, loving family.
The day I discovered I was the real daughter of the Ramirez family.
Emma Walker, the imposter who tormented me, staged her death in a car accident after running away.
My parents forced me to kneel before the priest daily for penance.
Three long years I endured this punishment.
Only yesterday did I uncover their deception: Emma had faked her death all along.
Mother, Father, they were all part of the conspiracy.
This was merely their test to see if I would threaten Emma's position later.
I wiped blood from my cracked lips and laughed bitterly.
They needn't have worried.
How could a dying girl ever replace Emma?

I crouched in the storage room, hiding the blood-stained tissues in a dark corner.
The door swung open abruptly. My brother Liam Ramirez entered, his icy gaze sweeping over me.
Disgust twisted his features.
"Susan Ramirez, time for your confession. Must I drag you there myself?"
I lifted my head slowly to meet his eyes.
Three years ago when we first met, he slapped me so hard my hearing never fully recovered.
I used to beg for his mercy, but now I lacked even the strength to plead.
"Brother," my voice scraped raw in my throat, thick with the taste of blood,
"Is Emma truly dead?
If she's gone, why have you never allowed me to visit her grave?"
Liam's expression tightened briefly before twisting into a cold smirk.
"Your words drove her away and caused that accident. Every bit of suffering you endure now
is exactly what you deserve."
"Forcing you to confess? That's merely to prevent you from defiling my sister's resting place!"
The physical pain was nothing compared to the agony tearing through my heart.
I spoke impulsively:
"Brother, I know Emma isn't dead. I saw her..."
"All these years, she's been bullying me at school. Ask anyone there if you doubt my word-"
Before I could finish, he viciously yanked my hair upward.
I cried out in pain, but Liam didn't relent.
He dragged me to the chapel outside the mansion, forcing me to kneel before the priest.
"Susan, how dare you slander my sister?
Three years later, are you still delusional about replacing her?"
"Since you haven't learned your lesson, you'll kneel here until you understand!"
Liam dragged me like worthless trash, slamming my forehead against the cold stone floor.
"Lost your tongue?
Speak!"
Trembling uncontrollably, I choked out the familiar words:
"I am guilty!"
"I shouldn't have coveted everything that belonged to Emma!"
"I shouldn't have deluded myself about replacing her or driving her to death! I'm guilty-I repent!"
Liam smashed my head against the floor ten times-one for each forced confession.
Only then did he release me with utter revulsion.
"Your filthy hair contaminated my hands. Disgusting!
Has our family ever mistreated you?
Can't even maintain basic hygiene?"
I knelt on the floor, struggling to breathe.
Blood surged up my throat-I couldn't suppress it. Vomit and nosebleed erupted simultaneously.
Panic finally flickered across Liam's face:
"Hey!
Why so much blood?
Susan!"
His voice faded as darkness consumed me.
I awoke in an unfamiliar room.
Liam stood nearby, scowling down at me:
"Why didn't you mention you were unwell?
Emma couldn't sleep after seeing you vomit blood."
"You were right-she isn't dead. This was merely a test."
"Since you've been obedient these three years, you've passed... for now."
"This is your room. When Emma's home, stay out of her sight."
Dizziness overwhelmed me, and complete despair settled in my heart.
I thought becoming the Ramirezes' real daughter would end my suffering.
Instead, I'd entered a deeper hell.
